“The international art scene - Brasil”

In the January/February 1990, issue, I wrote about the charming paintings of Margareth Mee from Brasil. In October and November 1991 at Nature in Art, there was a superb exhibition* of watercolours by Etienne Demonte depicting the humminbirds, toucans, orchids, and other flowers of the Brasilian rain forests (see Wildlife Art News - March/April 1988).
Here is a painter who can convincingly and beautifully combine detailed depictions of birds and plants with equal charm and skill. Unlike many who paint in a meticulously detailed manner, he manages to make the whole of each painting a well-composed and beautifully colored picture. His choice of shades and tones of color, for the backgrounds as much as the subject matter, is remarkably sucessful. He and his two sisters, who are also distinguished artists, say “we try to speak for the natural world to call the public’s attention to its fragility and harmony”. I am sure every reader will wish them every success in this.

Rodrigo Demonte é formado em agronomia e especializado em recursos naturais e ciências de solos. Seu trabalho agronômico lhe permite uma forte aproximação com o ambiente natural, de onde extrai a inspiração para sua arte.
